For many driveways, early autumn is a very good time for a proper clean.
Over the warmer months, dirt, weeds, moss and organic growth can gradually build up. Once the wetter weather arrives, those problems often become more noticeable and the surface can start looking tired very quickly.
A professional clean can make a huge difference, but good driveway restoration is about more than simply pointing a pressure washer at the surface.
Different driveways need different treatment.
Block paving, concrete, natural stone and other surfaces all respond differently to pressure and cleaning products. Block paving may also need re-sanding after cleaning to refill the joints and leave the surface properly finished.
That is why we always assess the condition of the driveway before deciding how to clean it.The goal is not simply to make it look impressive while it is still wet. It is to clean the surface correctly, deal with organic contamination where appropriate and leave it in a condition that is easier to maintain.
Autumn cleaning can also help remove weeds and moss before months of damp weather give them even more opportunity to establish themselves. That does not mean every driveway needs cleaning every year. If yours is still in good condition, leave it alone.
But if it is becoming heavily soiled, slippery, weed-filled or noticeably darker than it used to be, now may be a sensible time to deal with it.
At Aspen, we would rather recommend the right work at the right time than sell a service that is not needed.
